I work across design, frontend engineering, accessibility, and design systems. Most of the work I care about happens in the handoff between those disciplines: the decisions underneath an interface that determine whether it is understandable, durable, and usable by the people who depend on it.

The class that changed how I thought about design.
When I was in art school studying web design and interactive media, I took a small HTML class. My instructor was strict about accessibility. Every element needed a reason. Structure mattered. Semantics mattered. At the time, it mostly felt like the rules of the class.
Over the quarter, I started to understand why those rules existed. Good structure was not just cleaner HTML. It changed how people could actually use what we were building.
About halfway through the course, we were paired with real clients. Mine was a young woman from the Red Cross who needed a simple one-page informational site.
At the end of the quarter, we presented our work to the class and our clients. Afterward, she came up to me and said:
“It was a beautiful site.”
She was legally blind and used a screen reader.
I remember driving home later that night when it finally hit me: she could not see the site, and she still thought it was beautiful.
That changed the way I thought about design. Beautiful was not only what something looked like. It was structure. Clarity. Interaction. Whether someone could understand it, navigate it, and use it.
That was the moment I knew what I wanted to do: make the web beautiful.

The tools changed. The thing I care about did not.
I have spent the years since working across design, frontend engineering, accessibility, and design systems. Now AI is changing how software gets designed and built again. The part I keep coming back to is the same: make good decisions underneath the interface so the experience works for the people who depend on it.
